Two huge victories!
DOJ institutes two new policies that DOJ GEN has been advocating for years. First, DOJ issued a travel policy that helps ensure federal employees can access necessary medical care, including abortion care. Second, OPM issued a comprehensive salary history ban that prohibits the solicitation and consideration of salary history in hiring and pay-setting decisions. We are immensely grateful to the DOJ GEN Working Groups that worked tirelessly to make these changes happen!
DOJ GEN sends Flexible Work Options letter to DOJ leadership
DOJ GEN sent a letter today to the Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General, and Associate Attorney General to express concern about the Department’s plan to propose a new policy for substantially increasing in-person work following the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)’s April 13, 2023, memorandum M-23-15. DOJ GEN is concerned that the Department’s apparent haste and lack of comprehensive study, including constructive employee feedback, in the development of such a policy will have a negative impact on the Department’s ability to retain and recruit a productive, diverse, and talented workforce.

On March 15, President Biden signed an executive order requiring OPM to issue new rules on the use of salary history in federal employment. While this is an important step, we think it may not go far enough to close the pay gap.
