IVF testimonials make a big impact
Hi everyone,
I’m proud to provide an update on DOJ GEN’s pressure campaign to get IVF procedures covered by all federal employee health plans. On July 16, we sent OPM 36 poignant testimonials from DOJ GEN members who struggled without adequate IVF coverage. I think it would be hard for anyone to get through them without tearing up, and without understanding just how important it is for employers to support workers who need help growing their families.
We know that OPM and the White House heard these stories because they responded to inquiries from news outlets that reported on them. The Boston Globe published a feature article yesterday headlined “The Biden administration says it supports IVF. So why is the procedure not covered for all federal workers?”. The Federal News Network and GovExec covered the testimonials as well. We hope this attention will convince the Administration to make 2025 the year when all federal employees who need IVF can access it.
I’m so grateful to the dozens of DOJ GEN members who courageously shared their highly personal and, in many cases, incredibly painful experiences. DOJ GEN, members of Congress, and others have made strong arguments in support of robust IVF coverage, but no one is able to convey the hardships that inadequate coverage causes better than the federal employees who experienced them. Thank you also to thank Cameron Bell and Abi Farthing for the time and care they dedicated to this project.
We’ll provide you with updates about OPM’s 2025 mandates for FEHB plans as soon as they’re announced. In the meantime, please reach out with any questions.
Best,
Stacey
