DOJ GEN’s Abortion Care Advocacy

As a result of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, approximately two million federal employees and their family members who live in states that ban abortion face serious challenges to accessing abortion care. Below is a list of resources that may help. We will continue to update this list.

We’ve been busy urging the federal government to protect abortion access for its own workforce. Read about our efforts so far:

  • Our November 2022 letters urging members of Congress to remove all bans on comprehensive abortion coverage from the Fiscal Year 2023 budget, including the ban on abortion coverage for federal employees, are available here and here.

  • Our December 2022 letter to the Administration reiterating our proposals for protecting federal employees’ access to abortion care and asking that bans on abortion coverage be removed from its Fiscal Year 2024 budget is available here.

  • Abortion on Our Own Terms: An array of resources for those looking for help accessing abortion care.

  • The National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF): Operates a free and anonymous hotline staffed by individuals who can answer questions about abortion, unintended pregnancy, or related issues. Tel: 1-800-772-9100.

    National Abortion Federation Hotline: Largest national, toll-free, multi-lingual Hotline for abortion referrals and financial assistance. Hotline: 1-800-772-9100. Referral Line: 1-877-257-0012.

    If/When/How’s Repro Legal Helpline: Can help answer questions about self-managed abortion and the law. Can also provide free, confidential legal advice and lawyer referrals. Tel: 844-868-2812; or use the secure online form.

    Reprocare Healthline: Offers peer-based, trauma-informed emotional support to anyone having an abortion at home with pills. Tel.: (833) 226-7821.

    All-Options Talkline: Provides peer-based counseling and support for anyone currently pregnant or those who want to talk about a past or current experience with abortion, adoption, parenting, infertility or pregnancy loss. Tel: ​​1-888-493-0092.

    M+A Hotline: This hotline provides support for people self-managing their abortion or miscarriage. Call or text the Miscarriage + Abortion Hotline at 1-833-246-2632. They are available 8AM to 11PM in all continental US time zones, and will respond within an hour. They will not ask your name or any personal details or health identifiers.

  • Abortion Finder: Comprehensive directory of trusted (and verified) abortion service providers.

    I Need an A: Database of abortion providers nationwide.

    Abortion Care Network: Find independent clinics providing abortions.

    National Abortion Federation (NAF): Directory of NAF member facilities.

    NOTE: If you or someone you know is looking for a reproductive health clinic, please be mindful of the thousands of "clinics" throughout the country that pose as legitimate abortion clinics but exist to dissuade patients from having an abortion. You can learn more about them here, and read about the impact they can have on often unsuspecting people looking for legitimate health care here and here. A database of so-called “crisis pregnancy centers” is available here.

  • Abortion On Demand: Schedule a telemedicine appointment with a provider to receive abortion pills via mail in 22 states. Most patients are able to schedule within a few days and have kits delivered overnight.

    Plan C Pills: This site can help someone locate abortion pills.

    SASS (Self-Managed Abortion; Safe & Supported): If a person wants to use abortion pills to end an unwanted pregnancy, with or without a clinician, this website provides information about how to do that.

    How to Use the Abortion Pill: Guide to learn how to use abortion medication to safely and effectively end a pregnancy.

    Carafem: Offers video visits for medically supported at home abortion pills in 14 states and D.C. for a pregnancy up to 11 weeks.

  • National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF): List of resources, including abortion funds and practical support networks, in every state.

    DC Abortion Fund: Free, confidential helpline to connect residents of DC, Maryland, and Virginia or those traveling to the area with abortion funding. Tel: Call 202-452-7464 and leave a voicemail; DC residents can also use the secure online intake process.

    Find your local Practical Support Organization: Practical support funds can help with costs and logistics related to abortion, including travel, housing, and childcare

  • Repro Legal Defense Fund: ​​Covers bail and funds strong defenses for people who are investigated, arrested, or prosecuted for self-managed abortion.

    Guttmacher Institute Interactive Map: Interactive map provides information about current abortion policies in all states.

    Kaiser Family Foundation Abortion in the U.S. Dashboard: The Abortion in the U.S. Dashboard is an ongoing research project tracking state abortion policies and litigation following the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
